Lawyers suspended work on Wednesday at Panchkula district courts to show solidarity with the advocates of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who stayed away from courts to protests against the registration of a case against 20 advocates, including the former additional advocate general and ex-president of the High Court Bar Association,Rupinder Singh Khosla,in an high court fracas.

Most of the cases that were listed for hearing were adjourned, and cases couldn’t be argued in the courts due to the strike.

Lawyers sat on dharna at one of the entry points to the court and the appearances in cases was not allowed.

Panchkula Bar Association president Satish Kadian said,“The role of the police in the case is highly biased. They have registered the case against the advocate, while no action has been taken against the police official who was involved in the attack”.

He added that the lawyers would continue to suspend work till no fair action was taken in the matter.

In the courts, major cases couldn’t be taken up,and in most cases the hearings were put off. Advocate Prem Jagat said that he couldn’t appear in a remand case due to the strike. “The case of police remand of two people arrested in a dowry death case was listed for hearing on Wednesday. However,I couldn’t appear, due to the strike and the matter was set aside,” Jagat said.
