Controversial mega projects:UT top brass led by Adviser Pradip Mehra to give presentation on June 24
Chandigarh Administrator Shivraj V Patil has sought a factual explanation from senior officials over the alleged procedural irregularities in allotment of mega projects. The irregularities were highlighted by the special audit team of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to sources,Patil wants officials to apprise him of the entire issue and explain the Administrations stand.
A presentation in this regard is scheduled on June 24. The Administrations top brass led by Adviser Pradip Mehra will give the presentation.
Sources disclosed that Patil wants to know the current situation,as UT officials are being quizzed by the MHAs three-member commission on the controversial mega projects.
In an unprecedented move last year,the MHA had ordered a special audit of the projects conceptualised and allotted during the tenure of former Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd).
The audit report had accused senior officials of committing gross errors and categorically stated that the Chandigarh Administrations (conduct) is a perfect example as to how government projects should not be dealt with.
The Central Vigilance Commission and the Central Bureau of Investigation have conducted probes into the matter.
Now,for the last two months,the three-member commission has been questioning UT officials on the basis of the replies given to the team which conducted the special audit.
So far,the Administration has claimed innocence and maintained that no irregularity took place and it acted in accordance with the rules and regulations.
The controversial mega projects Filmcity,Amusement-cum-Theme Park,Medicity and Prideasia ran into rough weather soon after they were allotted.
Another round of questioning soon
Former IAS officer D R Bhalla,a member of the three-member commission,returned to Delhi on Saturday.
Bhalla was in Chandigarh last week to seek replies from the Chandigarh Administration to around 200 questions related to the controversial mega projects.
The commission has been questioning the Administrations top brass over alleged irregularities in conceptualising and allotting the projects to real estate giants.
Former senior IAS officer Arun Ramanathan,who heads the commission,is expected to land in the city soon for another round of questioning.
