Says Assembly elections are going to be held between Sept and Oct in a few states Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and former chief minister Capt Amrinder Singh hinted at early Assembly elections in the state on Wednesday. At the Aao Punjab Bachao rally in Dana Mandi,Ferozepur,Amarinder asked party workers to get in action mode as elections could be advanced. Make all efforts now. Be strong and work hard. Elections in a few states are going to be held between September and October. Hence,there is a possibility of early elections in Punjab,too. The Election Commission has got special powers, he told the gathering. Lakhs of rupees were spent to make this rally a success,in which more than 40,000 people turned up from across the district. The organisers claimed it to be the Congresss biggest show of strength in Malwa. In his 20-minute speech,Amarinder repeatedly told the masses to remember the work done by the Congress before casting votes. Listing the work,he said the Centre passed the Bill to give SC status to the Rai Sikh community and resolved the water war with Haryana by passing a Bill,besides taking many more such decisions. During his tenure as CM for four times,Parkash Singh Badal never thought of getting a Bill passed and continued to make people die in the water wars. Targeting the Badals in his speech,the former CM called them a group of monkeys fighting among themselves for power. Manpreet Badal himself ate subsidies worth Rs 19 lakh for his kinnow farms,but wants subsidies to end in Punjab. This shows his double standards. His Jago Punjab party has no principles. In fact,Sukhbir,Manpreet and Parkash Singh Badal are all fighting for the hot seat. Manpreet wanted to be the party president while Sukhbir was supposed to contest Parliament elections in future,but when things didnt work out,Manpreet walked out. The masses need to know things in correct perspective, said Amarinder. He strongly supported the Central subsidies and said: We cannot go away from subsidies. There are 13 lakh BPL families in Punjab and of them 8 lakh cannot even have one proper meal. Once again warning the officers and SAD workers who allegedly registered wrong FIRs against Congress workers,Capt said: I will punish all those who have done wrong. Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi,the in-charge of this rally,besides other sitting and former MLAs of other constituencies were present at the rally. Sidelights * Amarinder referred to Parkash Singh Badal as Baba and Sukhbir Badal as Kaka. He said: They often object to my words,but these are the best suited words for them. * Free lunch was provided to thousands who came from the district to attend the rally. More than 3,000 taxis were hired to ferry the people to the venue. * Two stages were built to accommodate the VIPs,VVIPs and party workers. The third stage was for popular singer Harbhajan Mann who entertained the masses for three hours. * A stampede like condition prevailed as Amarinder arrived and was going towards the stage. One Congress leader fell on the stairs while others somehow saved themselves from being trampled.
