The return of the SAD-BJP alliance in the state seems to have played a major role in the probe into the murder of a youth outside a polling booth in Ferozepur district on the eve of the January 30 polls. The case where the prime accused was the Congress candidates husband was transferred out of the purview of the district police and handed over to the state Crime Branch before the poll verdict was announced. But now,it has again been handed back to the district police.
However, the end result remains the same prime accused Jasmail Singh, husband of Ferozepur Congress candidate Satkar Kaur,is absconding even after three months of allegedly shooting dead 21-year-old Nishan Singh. A resident of Piaranwala village,Nishan was allegedly shot dead from point blank range by Jasmail Singh. Till date, the district police have managed to arrest two of Jasmails supporters.
Owing to certain political reasons, the investigation was taken away from us. The Congress had intentions of sabotaging the investigation, but after the poll results were declared, the probe was handed back to us. We have started the investigation again and will soon arrest the accused, Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police H S Mann said.
Meanwhile, police moved Ferozepur court seeking its intervention in the initiation proclamation proceedings against Jasmail. We are expecting an order in this regard on April 4,when the court will hear the case, said Mann.
