Registrar,on V-Cs direction, revokes stay on suspension of DAV College,Sector 10 principal; Panjab University does not want to meddle in colleges internal matter, say sources
The DAV College,Sector 10,which is already embroiled in a controversy over suspension of its former principal and appointment of another, saw some more action when the Panjab University (PU) revoked the stay imposed by the Registrar on the suspension a day earlier. The stay was in effect for less than 12 hours.
PU Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti questioned the Registrar S S Bari today morning when he was apprised about the case on his return to office; he was out of station on Thursday. Upon instructions of the V-C,the Registrar,in a volte face action, issued a notice saying, the earlier letter issued to be kept in abeyance. This was sent to the president of DAV Management Committee and a copy was forwarded to DAV College Principal Dr B C Josan, who has been denoted as ‘suspended principal’.
When Newsline contacted the V-C,he refused to comment on the matter; but it has been learnt from sources within PU that the university does not want to get involved in,what it thinks, internal matter of the college and its management committee.
Meanwhile, both PU and Dr Josan have claimed that they have not received a copy listing the grounds on which the latter has been suspended. Also, the university is expected to take a legal course of action after it receives a copy of the document.
Earlier on Thursday, the Registrar,in the absence of the V-C,and allegedly under the pressure of federation of college principals, used the powers vested in him by the Panjab University Calender Volume I,page numbers 172 and 173 to put a stay on the suspension orders of Dr Josan.
Dr Josan was not seen in his office throughout the day on Friday,he is learnt to have made several attempts to meet the V-C as soon as he received the information of revoking of the stay on his suspension. I have nothing to comment on the issue. As the Punjab and Haryana High Court has already put a stay on the transfer orders,I would certainly approach the court against the management committee’s decision, said Dr Josan.
Prof Shashi K Gupta, who was appointed principal by the committee on Thursday, managed all the college operations as a signatory authority from the college staff room. There was no protest either by the students or teachers in the college today and studies resumed after two days.
Meanwhile, the DAV College management committee expressed its satisfaction over the stand taken by the V-C and it assured that all efforts of resuming normalcy in the college would be adopted.
