Residents of Ransih Kalan village in Moga district went into a state of shock as the news spread about the death of Amandeep Singh who died under mysterious circumstances in a Panjab University hostel on Thursday.
Refusing to believe that Amandeep could commit suicide,his family members suspected foul play. It cannot be a case of suicide. He was full of life, said Gurcharan Singh,paternal uncle of the victim,as emotions constricted his throat.
Waiting for the body of the 24 years old at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,Gurcharan said,He visited his house last month and was very happy. He showed no signs of sadness. His brother Kuldeep had also come to Chandigarh a week before. He also found Amandeep peaceful and in high spirits.
Gurcharan was not alone at GMSH-16. He was accompanied by Amandeeps brother and friends from his village. After receiving the body,they left for Moga around 6 pm.
There cannot be anything more tragic than this for a father,Jagtar Singh,who is suffering from a severe backache and a mother,Jaswinder Kaur,who is a heart patient, added the grieving uncle.
According to the family,Amandeep was about to marry a Canada-based girl and had plans to settle in Canada. Why will he set himself on fire? It is indigestible, his friends said.
The family reached hostel number 2 at 10.45 pm on Thursday. However,owing to poor health and the sudden shock of her sons death,Amandeeps mother was sent back to her native village. Hostel warden Harish Kumar and head clerk Avtar Singh remained present at the hospital during the post-mortem.
Amandeep was charred to death when under mysterious circumstance a fire broke out in his room number 60 in block II of hostel number 2 on May 23. Pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering,he was to go back home on Friday after finishing his exams to start his marriage preparations,but the destiny had some other plans,said his acquaintances at Ransih Kalan. His parents had not uttered a word since the tragedy struck them. Singhs grandfather Ajmer Singh was a freedom fighter.
Started remaining alone and quiet
According to police sources,Amandeep had been disturbed for the last few days. He started remaining alone and quiet. He was a regular visitor to Gurdwara but for the last few days he had stopped visiting the Gurdwara too, said Kavle Parshuram,Additional Deputy Commissioner,Chandigarh.
