PU students clash at two places

Student organisations of Panjab University and its affiliated colleges were involved in clashes in two different incidents in the city today.

Student organisations of Panjab University (PU) and its affiliated colleges were involved in clashes in two different incidents in the city today. Two students of GGDSD College in Sector 32,Chandigarh,were injured in a clash between two groups of college students and were taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH),Sector 32,this afternoon. The clash occurred after members of SOPU-1 and SOPU-2 got into a fight over the selection of the new college president of Students’ Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU).

Amtosh Singh was chosen president of SOPU for SD College this morning. Angered by the decision,some members of the organisation beat up Ratandeep Singh and Tarundeep Singh,supporters of Amtosh. They suffered minor tissue injuries. A case was registered at the Sector 34 police station by Tarundeep Singh,member of the ‘winning side’,against Ajay Kumar,Ankesh Kumar,Abhishek Sood and two others on charges of rioting,voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. They have not been arrested yet.

In another incident,Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) and Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) members got into a heated argument at University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) in the PU premises and a fight ensued. The PU Security In-charge P K Dhawan and the Sector 11 police station SHO rushed to the spot. The PU police post in-charge,Head Constable Jaspal Singh,informed that their was a squabble at UIET and the authorities have ensured a compromise between the groups. He added that no case has been registered.
