Following the arrest of an alleged member of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) from Raipur district in Chattisgarh on Sunday evening, security agencies, including the Punjab Police and Intelligence Bureau, are eager to question him to ascertain his role in terror attacks.
Acting on intelligence inputs from their Punjab counterparts, the local police in Raipur arrested Nirmal Singh alias Nimma.
Highly placed sources said that Nimma has been handed over to the Punjab Police team, headed by Kharar DSP Rajwinder Singh, which is on its way back to the state.
The team would be reaching in the evening and we will question him about his movement in Punjab and Chattisgarh. His role in funding terrorist activities either in Punjab or some Naxal dominated areas cannot be ruled out, claimed the police.
He would be handed over to Mohali police first. Later, other districts which have pending cases against him could seek his custody, officers added.
The alleged terrorist, wanted in numerous cases, was recently seen in Punjab and later went underground after fearing that the Punjab police had tracked his movement.
Nimma had shifted his base abroad in recent years and recently returned from Greece and came to India in February. After spending a fortnight in Punjab,he shifted out of the state in the first week of March, claimed a senior intelligence officer.
Earlier he was associated with the KCF and has close links with Khalistan Zindabad Force,a Sikh separatist outfit that has been spearheading a campaign for the formation of an independent Sikh state, he added.
Following recent cases when terrorist groups planted bombs and successfully exploded one,and hawala money worth 40 lakh recovered by alleged terrorists,we would certainly try to get remand of Nimma, said SSP Patiala R S Khatra.
Nimma recently returned to the country and the Home ministry has already cautioned us that certain groups in abroad are trying to spread terror by funding terrorist outfits, claimed an officer.
Patiala IG Paramjit Singh Gill confirmed the arrest of Nimma but said that very little information about his past was available.
