Rains bring down temperature by 4 degrees C; showers to recede in coming days,says Met dept

The city received 61.2 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours bringing down the day’s temperature by four degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded today was 28.9 degrees Celsius,four degrees below normal.

Rains were experienced in the tricity on Saturday and continued till Sunday morning. The rain also brought down the night temperature by two degrees. For the past two years,the city has witnessed heavy rains in the month of September. In 2009,a total of 326 mm was received while the year before that 263.2 mm of rain was experienced in the city. The city had witnessed scanty rainfall in 2007 (53 mm) and 37.9 mm in 2006.

The Met Department had predicted that a few spells of rain would be experienced in the coming week. While the temperature is likely to rise by a few degrees.

The incessant rains have,meanwhile,caused potholes on roads.

The carpeting of roads would start once the rains are over.

In some sectors,the work was started before the monsoons but could not be completed. This is causing inconvenience to residents with slushy conditions prevailing in the area.
