After the arrests of four suspected robbers on Saturday, two of whom were allegedly involved in separate robbery bids on a Panchkula BJP leader and a businessman,Lalit Behl in Chandigarh, the Haryana Police is now on the look out for several others believed to be part of a larger gang.
On the leads provided by the arrested robbers, two names Raja from Ludhiana and Jail Pal from Amritsar have surfaced, said a police officer, while adding that two engineering students are also under the scanner for their alleged links with the gang.
They were operating as part of the larger gang. We are trying to establish the links and more arrests are likely to be made soon, added the officer, while claiming that that the gang operating at the regional level has been busted.
On a possible theory of gang formation, the officer said,Most of the gang members met each other in jails from where they possibly decided to work together.
After the robbers admitted to their involvement in various robberies in Punjab,Haryana,Rajasthan and Delhi, the Haryana Police today conducted raids in Amritsar,Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur.
Two of the robbers Bablu from Bhiwani and Naveen from Sonepat are suspected to be involved in the recent abduction and robbery bids. Bablu was recently released from jail on parole, while serving imprisonment for another robbery. He,however, did not return.
The other duo, including a woman, was nabbed yesterday from House Number 888,Sector 5,in Kurukshetra following which the police seized a number of pistols, revolvers, guns and cartridges. The Haryana Police also recovered a Scoda and Honda Civic car, believed to be owned by Behl, from the Sector-5 house.
Hinting at the gangs involvement in the Hoshiarpur gun house looting last month, the officer said: We have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the accused and these appear to be the same weapons stolen from the Hoshiarpur gun house.
