Ropar bow down to Chandigarh

For minnows Ropar,writing was on the wall. Chasing a daunting first innings total of 430 against formidable Chandigarh was always an impossible task.

For minnows Ropar,writing was on the wall.Chasing a daunting first innings total of 430 against formidable Chandigarh was always an impossible task.In reply,Ropar could make 250 runs for the loss of eight wickets,thus letting Chandigarh gain first innings lead win in the ongoing U-19 Dhruv Pandove Cricket Trophy in a match played at Sector 16 cricket stadium in Chandigarh.

Batting second,Ropar got off to a disastrous start losing two wickets for mere 12 runs in seven overs. Thereafter,it was left to Manpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh to score runs for their team. Ropar might have found difficult to face the Chandiagrh bowling attack,but there was a silver lining in their innings as Manpreet Singh smashed impressive unbeaten kncok of 101. Gurpreet Singh also chipped in with useful 67 runs. Unfortunately,other wickets fell cheaply to Chandigarh spinners Verrkaran Goel (3 for 77),Gurinder Singh (2 for 66) and Rajpal Singh (2 for 55). The Chandigarh spinners kept the opposition on their toes till the end.

Mohali snubs Patiala
In a close finish,Mohali gained two points on the first innings lead against Patiala. In reply to Mohali’s first innings total of 271 runs,Patiala were bowled out for 193 runs in 68.1 overs.

Patiala kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Vinay Goraba 44 off 127 balls with 6 boundaries and Mehjot Sodhi  62 off 87 balls were the only batsman to shine for Patiala. For Mohali Sohrab (5 for 52) and Birkanwar Singh (3 for 54) shared the spoils.

Ludhiana drubs Bathinda
In the third match played at Ludhiana between Bathinda and Ludhiana,Ludhiana squeezed past minnows Bathinda by 29 runs on first innings lead. Resuming at 62 for 2 in 26 overs,Bathinda collapsed for 156 in 58 overs. Harjit Singh (36),Mahavir (28) and Sangram (22),were the main contributors for Bathinda. Amritpal Singh (5 for 73) and Abhishek Talwar (2 for 16) did most of the damage for Ludhiana. Ludhiana in their second innings were 94 for 4 in 46 overs.

Vinay props up Amritsar
In the fourth match played at Burlton Park Jalandhar,hosts chasing Amritsar’s total of 360 for 8 were shot out for 281 in 90.4 overs despite a brilliant hundred (120) by Love Kumar. For Amritsar Vinay Chaudhary bowled well to take four wickets for 95. Amritsar got 2 points by virtue of their 79 runs first innings lead. Vinay has been in a good form with the ball lately.
