The Punjab government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday about the allocation of funds and steps taken by it to construct the sewerage treatment plant in Nayagaon. An affidavit was filed today during the resumed hearing of a petition seeking directions to the government authorities to make arrangements for a sewerage treatment plant.

“Nayagaon has been covered under HUDCO and a project costing Rs 43.15 crores has already been approved. Out of this,an amount of Rs 16 crores has been sanctioned for the time being for the sewerage project and further,the first installment of Rs 8 crores has been released to the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board,the executing agency of the project. The project report on the laying of the sewerage system shall be completed within one year and that of the sewerage treatment plant shall be completed within two years. An executive officer of the Nagar Panchayat,Nayagaon,has been constituted on September 19 to recommend a suitable site for the installation of the sewerage treatment plant. A site selection committee is in the process of identifying the suitable site which the Nagar Panchayat Nayagaon will recommend for the setting up of the sewerage treatment plant,” reads the reply.
