RS: Dhindsa,Gujral of SAD file papers

Dhindsa has been a Union minister and is secretary general of the SAD. Gujral has also been a member of the Lok Sabha as well as the Rajya Sabha from Punjab .

Kusumjit Sidhu,Chief Electoral Officer,Punjab,confirmed that Dhindsa and Gujral have filed their nomination papers.

Secretary,Vidhan Sabha,Ved Parkash,will be the returning officer for the polls,she added.

Sources said the Congress has also cleared the names of Gill and former Union minister Kumar. Gill was to file his papers on Monday but could not reach on time and will file his nomination on Tuesday,the last day for filing.

Khanna of the BJP,who will also file his papers on Tuesday,has been a member of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. He was not given a ticket for LS polls this time.

Of the five seats on which elections are to take place,at present three are with the Congress and two with the Akali Dal.

The present occupants are Gill,Kumar,and Dharampal Sabarwal. Since the party can manage only two seats this time given its reduced strength,Sabarwal has been left out.

SAD’s Gujral is a sitting member of the Rajya Sabha. SAD’s other sitting RS member Varinder Singh Bajwa has been replaced by Dhindsa.

Since the BJP now has the numbers,it got one seat which it has given to Khanna.
