For the last two days,the matches played on the courts were mostly one-sided and the outcome was declared after just one set. However,on Tuesday,there was something special on the plate for the spectators- a mouth-watering encounter between Sachit Malhotra and Sabrang Sandal in the boys’ Under-14 category that lit up the day during the Anee’s Tandem Tennis Tournament for juniors played at Anee’s Tandem Tennis Academy,Sector 69,on Tuesday. The end score did not justify the hard work both the players had put in to out do one another. Though Sandal lost 0-6,4-6 to Sachit,he put in every ounce of hard work and dedication that he could come up with.
Sachit,a trainee of Total Tennis Academy,mostly stuck to baseline game with a sound forehand. He was in ominous form as he took the first set 6-0. But the match took a turn in the second set despite Sachit taking a huge 5-1 lead. Sabrang,who till now was looking subdued,began to free his arms and he won the next three ganes in succession to make it 4-5. The tenth game of the set witnessed as many as six deuces as both the players looked determined to win the game. But finally,Sachit managed to hold his nerves and won the set by 6-4.
However,Sabrang compensated for his loss in the Under-14 category by winning the Under-12 title. Sabrang routed K Aditya 4-0,4-1 in the final to claim the title.
Meanwhile,Prabhman Bal of CLTA lost to Aneesh Goel in a one-sided final in the boys’ Under-16 category. Aneesh won 6-0,6-4. After conceding the first set easily,Prabhman made his way back into the match by playing some stunning shots all over the court. He put up a good fight but Aneesh maintained his composure to beat Prabhman 6-4 in second set in the final.
In the boys Under-10 category,Sagar Bains came up with a perfect outing as he won the final 4-0,4-0.
City girl Riva Gill took the girls’ Under-12 title by beating Komalpreet of Manav Mangal School,Mohali by 4-2 ,4-1. In the girls’ Under-14 category,Jasmine of Manav Mangal Total Tennis Academy overcome her academy partner Sakhshi 4-1,4-0 to take the title.
