SGPC against withdrawal of AI flight from Rajasansi

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar has joined the bandwagon voicing concerns over the re-scheduling of Air India (AI) Amritsar-London-Toronto flight from local Rajasansi international airport to Delhi’s T-3 airport.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar has joined the bandwagon voicing concerns over the re-scheduling of Air India (AI) Amritsar-London-Toronto flight from local Rajasansi international airport to Delhi’s T-3 airport. He said the Sikhs are settled in large number in UK and Canada and the flight was a direct link for them to visit the Golden Temple and with the flight being diverted to Delhi, they would be put to the great inconvenience.

“From religious point of view and commerce Amritsar is emerging as a major centre. The city of Golden Temple is all set to be at losses with the withdrawal of the flight that too by the national courier,” he said adding that other important private airlines have also suspended some of their flights and Centre government had been a mute spectator and did nothing to save the airport for the sake of the development and religious importance of the city.

“After India,Canada has the highest population of Sikhs in the world. The decision of withdrawing the flight is a total injustice to the Sikhs settled in that country,” he said. Apart from him,SGPC executive committee members Rajinder Singh Mehta,Gurbachan Singh Karmuwal,SGPC members Bibi Kiranjot Kaur,Jaswinder Singh Advocate,Sukhjinder Singh Jhabhal also condemned the decision.
