The UT Administration has started a single window system to provide permission for tourists to visit the Capitol Complex. Tourists who want to visit the buildings and monuments at the Capitol Complex would be able to receive permission at various places including the tourist information centres in different sectors.
As per the system that was prevalent till now,tourists visiting the Capitol Complex had to seek permission at the Chandigarh College of Architecture in Sector 12 or the Additional Deluxe Building,Sector 9. Apart from these buildings,permission can be sought now from tourist information centres in Sector 17 and Sukhna Lake as well as the Le Corbusier Centre,Sector 19.
Foreign tourists would be required to submit a copy of their passport and visa at these centres to get the requisite permission. Domestic tourists would be able to get the permission by submitting any identification proof. The permission would be made available to visitors in 10 minutes.
Foreign tourists,especially architects and architecture students,visit the Capitol Complex to see one of the most renowned creations of Le Corbusier. Getting the requisite permission was,however,a hassle for tourists who had for some time been demanding that the process be made simpler. The Capitol Complex comprises of three buildings namely the Secretariat,Assembly and High Court. Apart from these. a number of monuments are present. The high security measures prove to be a problem for tourists who want to visit Corbusiers creation.
Earlier,a proposal was mooted to have a tourist reception centre at the Capitol Complex but this never saw the light of day. The UT had asked a group of architects to make suggestions for the Capitol Complex. One of the recommendations was to make access to the buildings easier.
