On Friday, Sippy’s family threatened to come out in the open and address a press conference next week if the police failed to crack the case by then.
However, Upadhyay told Chandigarh Newsline, “The investigation is going in a positive direction. We cannot divulge any details at this stage.”
An official statement released by the UT Police on Friday read, “Police are working on various theories and clues available, and revealing anything at this stage will be damaging for investigation. As of now, no arrest has been made in this case.”
A section of the media on Friday reported that the police had arrested two accused in the case from Uttar Pradesh. However, IGP Upadhyay denied it.
Sippy’s mother Deepinder Kaur told Chandigarh Newsline, “He (Sippy) left home, saying he was going to meet his friend. After returning from Canada on September 18, Sippy met the same girl and told me about it. The next evening on Sunday, he left home again telling me that he was going to meet her. She was very close to our family. We only want the truth to come out. We request the Chandigarh Police to solve the case as early as possible.”
Sippy’s younger brother Jippy Sidhu said, “Sippy was serious to join politics and was preparing to contest the Assembly elections in 2017. I have doubts about some people but I cannot reveal their identities as it can hamper the ongoing investigation. We do not have any property dispute with anybody. Even Sippy never mentioned any to me.”
“If the Chandigarh Police fails to catch the culprits who killed my brother, we will even go to Prime Minister to seek justice,” Jippy added.
On Friday, the Chandigarh Police managed to unlock Sippy’s iPhone6 with the help of forensic and cyber experts. Although some data was corrupted in the process, the police claimed that they would retrieve it.
“We have opened Sippy’s phone. Now we are analysing the data. We have certain clues and are collecting evidence to nail the suspects,” said an investigating police officer.
A few people close to Sippy were questioned by the teams of Chandigarh Police. Police sources said that they had found some more clues from Sippy’s laptop.
