After numerous requests by city residents,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has finally given a go-ahead to the UT Administration to allow people to visit the Open Hand monument. The visiting hours are likely to be from 10.30 am to 3 pm.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at the High Court,chaired by Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal. UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas asked Justice Mudgal if people could be allowed to visit the monument as the Administration is receiving numerous requests in this regard,to which Justice Mudgal agreed and asked the Administration to formulate a policy at the earliest.
In principle,it has been decided to allow visitors at Open Hand Monument during the day time for a certain duration,confirmed a senior UT official.
A meeting for working out the modalities of the parking of vehicles,visiting hours etc. has been scheduled for February 1,which would be chaired qby UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas and attended by senior police officials and the UT officials concerned,he added.
