After almost eight years of experimenting with different kinds of sound, alternative hard rock band Bare Faced Liar is out with its eponymous debut album (EMI,Rs 199). Comprising nine tracks, this comes in the wake of their win at the Ibibo band competion. Featuring Akshay Chowdhury and Sumant Balakrishnan on guitars and vocals,Dushyant Purohit on bass and Tushar Goyal on percussion, the album is a mishmash of the various kinds of sound the group is known for. I think our album cuts across a series of genres and is an amalgamation of the distinct and eclectic musical taste of its members. You will have blues and Indian influences, all strung together, says Chowdhury.
For a band that started playing in 2002 under the name Lynchdpain a time when the underground music scene existed only in bits and spurts the album seems to have come a bit too late. Every band wants a record deal, but we were busy performing for the longest time. Also,Akshay was away in the US while two of us were in Pune. Therefore, the delay, says Purohit. The band may still be reveling in the glory of their track Carnation, that was featured in a couple of international compilations, but does not want to dwell on it. Its all about continuing to do interesting work. We cant stagnate ourselves, says Chowdhury.
The album opens with the popular Turismo,a track with heavy guitar riffs and loud vocals. There are a couple of new tracks like Mirage and Glow. While most of the tracks are personal and deal with love and relationships,we have also included tracks like Unity and Pre-Radical,that give generic freedom messages, says band manager Ashutosh Bharadwaj. The album concludes with a peppy track Out of the League.
