The Special CBI court on Sunday remanded Superintendent of Police Desh Raj Singh, arrested in a bribery case of Rs 1 lakh,in 14-day judicial custody.
CBI sources said during the two-day interrogation, the accused IPS officer had confessed that he had taken the money from Station House Officer Anokh Singh. However,he was not grilled much. They (CBI sleuths) had only asked about some mobile numbers which he confirmed, the sources added.
The defence counsel requested for a copy of the pre-trap memo,post-trap memo and the transcript of the alleged conversations that were recorded by the CBI sleuths.
We would like to study the copy of transcriptions of the alleged conversations that the CBI has collected as we want to ensure that they have not tampered with the evidence, said the defence lawyer.
The CBI was granted two days time to decide if it wanted to share the requested information with Desh Rajs attorney. The court asked the CBI to reply about the status of the demanded documents on Tuesday.
A senior CBI official said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Sharan had visited the CBI headquarters for questioning but nothing substantial was revealed by him.
When asked about the CBIs proceedings,Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh said,I am not gathering any information as to what CBI is doing. It is a premier investigating agency, and I am sure whatever they do will be fair and up to the mark.
