State data centre in six months

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday initiated the second phase of administrative reforms by asking all administrative departments and deputy commissioners to chalk out a cohesive and coordinated approach to provide prompt services to the citizen.

For this purpose,the government plans to come up with a data centre for the state.

In a marathon meeting held on Wednesday,in which all financial commissioners,principal secretaries,administrative secretaries,commissioners and deputy commissioners from all districts participated,Sukhbir said: “We have laid a firm foundation of administrative reforms under Phase-I and made officialdom accountable under the Right to Service Act. Now,it is imperative to bring cohesion in the approach of all departments by creating a state data centre.”

He added that the government has approved the creation of a State Data Centre — to be located in Mohali Phase-8 — which will be connected to all government offices. Its disaster recovery system will be located at NIC,Pune. The 50-crore centre will be completed within six months,said Sukhbir.

He further asked the chief secretary to explore the possibility of bringing cohesion in Suvidha Centre,transport department,excise and taxation department,land records and Saanj Kendras. The government was thinking about connecting 635 offices of 17 major departments under one umbrella,Sukhbir added.
