For Navjeet Singh music and dance is an integral part of Punjabi culture. One cannot resist it. Its a deep part of our culture and upbringing. If youre a Punjabi, singing and dancing is in your blood, you are born with it, says Sydney-based singer, who was in Mohali to promote his latest album Pure Energy. Produced in association with various artists,it has two tracks by Singh,27. It is fully loaded with dance numbers and also has singers like Feroz Khan and Gurkirpal Surapuri, says he. The businessman has been passionate about music since childhood. In every Punjabi household you grow up on a heavy dose of folk music, boliyan and tappe. I have been singing since I was a kid,but I entered the field of music professionally when I was 18, says Singh, who trained with late Bhavani Shankar and Meet Malkit of the hit number Botlan Sharaab Diyan fame. While work took him to Australia,he visited India in 2007,for the release of his first album Rut Mastani,in collaboration with RDX Music. Now the artist is busy shooting for music videos for Pure Energy. I have two songs. London Naa Karvadu Ik Vaari Nach Lai Haan Diye, written by Mohni Saab,is already on all Punjabi channels. The other song Khede Goriye Chubaare Vich Geetiyan is written by Raj Kakra and the music is composed by Beat Minister, says Singh. Singh believes that music companies have stopped investing in singers and producing music for them, because of which a lot of untrained people, with money, are making and producing their own labels. I feel reputed music companies should streamline and focus on quality rather than quantity, he adds. Even as his music videos are being readied to go on air on PTC and MH1,he is preparing for his solo, which is scheduled to release in September.
