Delhi’s first laser tag gaming arena is a good spot for youngsters to spend their weekends among diodes and photons

How many of us have wanted to play laser tag after watching Barney Stinson and Robin Scherbatsky battling it out in How I Met Your Mother? Now,adrenaline junkies visiting Delhi can go to Janakpuri, where a brand new laser tag gaming arena,Lasergame.in,opened earlier this month.

Situated in a building right next to the metro station,Lasergame.in comes as a refreshing surprise with its wide open spaces. Walk into the briefing room, and one is greeted with posters enumerating the dos and don’ts of the game in a funky way. For instance,“Do you think you are Salman Khan” or “Remember: Barney Stinson is a fictitious character” and “Your laser is not ice-cream”.

The game is simple, and the larger the group, the more fun one will have. After a 10-minute briefing by the “marshall” (a staff member),players are divided into teams and instructed on how to use the laser gun (point, lock, shoot) and other equipment. Once the players are dressed in “laser vests”,they are taken into the “arena”.

The arena is a dark, like a fog-filled cornucopia with red and green flickering lights. The maze-like structure is designed to give the players a hiding space, since sprinting, jumping and climbing is not allowed.

The team’s goal is to protect their “home base” and try and attack the “home base” of others,“killing” the members of the opposite team in the process. But one of the advantages of laser tag is that it is very safe, considering there is no physical contact between the players.

Lasergame.in gets all the basic stuff right: the charged-up staff whose enthusiasm is infectious, the 2,400-sq ft arena with loud and pulsating music that adds thrill to the game, and the top-notch but simple-to-use equipment.
