Every time I visit the college,I make it a point to sit in my class on the chair that once used to be mine, recalls nostalgic D S Bhui,Director-Architect,Cosmic Designs,Lucknow. An alumnus of the Chandigarh College of Architecture,it was homecoming for him as he came to the college as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of his alma mater.
Bhui was a student of the 1968 batch the third batch of the college. He has been the professor and head of the architectural consultancy,IIT Lucknow. Bhui says,The feeling that I have studied in a college designed by Le Corbusier is unmatchable in itself. We were a mischievous batch.
Memories of those days flooded back when I entered the college.
He feels that the students these days are more articulate and sure of themselves. We were not so focused at that time. The students now know what they want. This is a positive change that I have witnessed over the years, he says.
The feelings are shared by UT Chief Architect Sumit Kaur who is also an alumnus of the college. Having passed out in 1977,Kaur says that while she keeps coming back to the college due to her professional engagements each time it is equally special. I remember how we used to go on walking in the corridors of the college. The prize distribution ceremony in the college lawns and the numerous declamation contests and presentations in the college auditorium are some of the pleasant memories I have. We were also privileged to have late Dr Aditya Prakash as our principal. He was a motivating force for all of us, she says.
The principal of the college Dr Pradeep Bhagat also happens to be a former student. Having passed out from the college in 1983,Dr Bhagat taught for nine year at a college in Ambala and joined his alma mater in 1994.
Being the principal of the college where I studied is something I had never imagined. We used to be pranksters back then. I remember all the tricks my group used to be involved in. It seems all those years have flown by, he says.
The batch of 1985 would be celebrating its silver jubilee this year. Architect Renu Khanna from the batch says that they are planning a reunion in December. Getting awarded today at the college auditorium is a cherished moment, she said.
