The results are surprising as compared the applications received for the course, the most preferred after B Com and BCA.

For the batch that wrote this year’s first-year examinations,as many as 1058 applications were received for 120 seats in only government colleges.

Similarly, private colleges such as GGDSD College,Sector 32 and DAV College,Sector 10 that offers this course were swarmed with applications from candidates seeking admission in BBA.

The results of second and final year exams, though, were not as dismal at 98.06 per cent and 89.19 per cent, respectively.

“The rage for MBA is so much that everybody wants this degree. Students who hardly have any background in management and commerce subjects apply for this course. Most of them have passed Class XII with high scores in vocational courses,” said the Principal of Post Graduate Government College,Sector 11,Dr J S Raghu.

The course structure is also said to be another reason for the poor results. There are nine subjects in first-year ranging from Mathematics,Accounting,Economics,Punjabi to English.

“BBA is open for all streams unlike B Com. As many have not studied any of these subjects, especially Mathematics, they fail their first year,” said the Principal of Government College of Commerce and Business Administration,Sector 42,Manjit Brar.

Disappointed with this year’s result, the principals held meetings with the Board of Studies at Panjab University to review the problem and to change the curriculum and admission criteria.
