A month after valuables worth Rs 2 lakh were stolen from a Sector 25 residence, thieves on Tuesday again struck at the same house, decamping with taps and a sewage lid. They tried to break into the house, but were outsmarted by the house owner who was prepared well in advance this time for the thieves. Though three of the four misceants fled, he managed to nab an accused, a minor, and handed him over to the police. The police later arrested another minor on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the crime.
The residence of Raman Parihar, the victim, was burgled on June 14 from where silver items, brass idols, electronic gadgets and cash were stolen.
“Thieves had removed a window pane of a room connecting to the backyard of the house yesterday. I had anticipated that they would strike again today and kept waiting for them. Four miscreants scaled the backyard wall and tried to break in the house. I nabbed one of the miscreants while the others managed to flee,” said Parihar.
“I handed over the thief to the police and gave them a written complaint. However, they still have not registered an FIR. It seems that it is a gang of minors as last month the thieves had entered the house from an exhaust fan opening,” Parihar added. There has been a spate of thefts in the past few weeks in several areas like sectors 2, 6, 7 and Mansa Devi Complex. The Panchkula police till date has not been able to identify the accused in either of the cases. “We are working on solving these cases,” said Ajay Singhal, Commissioner, Panchkula-Ambala.
