Three PU cricketers make it to North Zone team for Vizzy Trophy

After giving some outstanding performances during the North Zone inter-university tournament,Panjab University cricketers,Simrat Bawa,Amit Parashar and Michael Visha,have been selected in the North Zone team for All India Vizzy Trophy to be held at APS Rewa University Madhya Pradesh from March 20. Simrat,a batsman-cum-wicketkeeper and Amit Parashar,an aggressive batsman,are students of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for boys Sector 26,Chandigarh,while Michael Vishal who is also an attacking batsman is a student of from GGD SD College,Sector 32,Chandigarh.

Simrat and Amit who had done well for Chandigarh in the Punjab inter-district tournament last season ,had also given superlative performances for Panjab University in North Zone inter-university tournament. Former Ranji Trophy cricketer Harish Sharma is coach of all these three cricketers.

Expressing joy over the selection of his trainees,coach Harish Sharma said,”Both Simrat and Amit are naturally talented players. I have been training them since they were kids. Their work hard and passion for the game will take them to places in the future. They need to deliver the goods when required and play match-winning knocks. Likewise,Vishal is a tremendous cricketer. A good Vizzy Trophy outing will further help them build good reputation in the cricket circles,thus further enhancing their careers.”

Panjab University lost in the North Zone inter-university semifinals,but Simrat and Amit shone with the bat scoring 150 runs and 250 runs,respectively in four matches. Amit in particular,was quite impressive as he scored a century against Bareily University and emerged as the highest run-getter for Panjab University. It was in the last Katoch-Shield Punjab inter-district tournament that Amit had smashed three back-to-back tons and established a record. Both Amit and Simrat have grown up in sports dominated families. If Amit’s father is a wrestling coach then Simrat’s is a cricket coach. North Zone will face South Zone on March 20 in their first match.
