Triangular love story behind school shootout: Cops

Amritsar (rural) police — which has arrested one of the students,Navdeep Singh,and recovered a country-made pistol of .12 bore — on Monday told a press conference as to what triggered the shooting. What baffled the police was the revelation during Navdeep’s interrogation that he was a member of a robbers’ gang and that he acted as “a courier” for the gang to supply the country-made weapons made by gas welder Harjit Singh,who worked at Thariyewal. Harjit has also been arrested.

“Investigations so far reveal that Harjit manufactured four country-made weapons. Navdeep paid Rs 5,000 to Harjit for the weapon which he used in the shootout,” Amritsar (rural) SSP Surinderpal Singh Parmar told mediapersons. “Navdeep acted as a courier for the robbers’ gang and supplied them with country-made weapons manufactured by Harjit.”

A case with attempt to murder charge and under sections of the Arms Act has been registered against Navdeep,Sajan Sidhu,Akashdeep and Duby on the complaint of Shehbaz Singh,all students of Plus One.

After the alleged firing by Navdeep and Sajan Sidhu,Lovepreet Singh and Paramjit Singh,the students of Plus One,suffered splinter injuries. A Plus Two student,Gurvinder Singh,suffered a forehead injury after he was allegedly attacked with a hockey stick by Duby.

Majitha DSP Gursewak Singh Brar said the students involved in the triangular love affair were not directly involved in the fight. “Their friends who were members of two opposite groups in the school fought with each other over the issue,” he added.
