Tricity enjoys unusually cool & wet April

Rainfall in the city over the past few days has ensured a relatively cool April.

Rainfall in the city over the past few days has ensured a relatively cool April. The maximum temperature in the city has been below normal. The rainfall in the month of April has been more than that over the last few years in the same month. The Meteorology Department has predicted rain in the coming days as well.

The maximum temperature in the city was recorded as 31.6 degrees Celsius,three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius was normal.

The month of April has been wetter than in the past few years. While the maximum rainfall received in April was 2.2 mm last year,just traces of rainfall were received in 2010. In 2009,11.6 mm rainfall was received. The all-time record for the highest rainfall in the month of April was 109.3 mm in 1983.

On April 12 this year,a thunder storm lashed the city. Along with strong winds and hail storm,around 25 mm rainfall was received. Till this evening,around 3 mm rain was witnessed in the city. Light showers were experienced in the morning and the sky was overcast again and rain was witnessed in the Tricity In the afternoon. The rain has brought down the day temperature,which had touched 35 degrees.

Met officials have predicted rainfall for Sunday as well. The day temperature is likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius. This year the previous months too have been wetter than over the past few years. The city has been receiving relatively more rainfall in 2012.
