Two students were seriously injured during a clash between supporters of two rival students unions Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) and Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) at DAV College,Sector 10,on Tuesday. Even as the police said all involved were students of the college, the authorities blamed outsiders for the incident and declared a complete ban on their entry.
On Tuesday,a few unidentified youths forcibly entered the college premises and reportedly attacked Amandeep Multani,a third-year student of BA,and Gokul,a second-year student, with sharp-edged weapons. The assailants fled from the spot in a Maruti car while the injured were taken to GMSH-16,where they were administered first aid. Gokul was also attacked by unidentified men at the Sector-11 market recently.
College Principal B S Josan told Newsline: Every time,it is the outsiders who create a ruckus in the college. But now we have decided to completely ban the entry of outsiders. He added: If found guilty, action would be taken against students from the college. Students, meanwhile, are not happy with the ban. There are one or two apples in the college but it is wrong to lay the full blame on outsiders, said a student.
An FIR has been registered against unidentified men under Sections 323 (causing hurt),206 and 34 IPC. Station House Officer of the Sector-3 police station Har Shahay said: Action will be taken against the guilty students. ASP Madhur Verma was also present at the college to investigate the matter.
Lensman manhandled by students
A photojournalist, working with an English daily in the city, was reportedly manhandled by the students when he tried to click pictures. The students forced the lensman to delete the photos. A complaint has been registered at the Sector-3 police station.
