After Newsline reported discrepancies in reserved categories in the advertisement for empanelment of guest teachers in city government schools, the UT Education department on Sunday released a notice and corrigendum giving details of percentage and number of seats under different reserved categories.

The advertisement released by the department on July 3,inviting applications for 387 guest posts in 105 government schools, did not mention the percentage and number of seats under reserved category. The details were released on July 11,the day the applications forms were received.

According to the revised advertisement, the department reserved a total of 46 per cent under various reserved categories — 14 per cent for SC,27 per cent for OBC,3 per cent for the physical challenged and 2 per cent for ex-servicemen. Though the advertisement mentions that recruitment of guest teachers in the government schools would be similar to that of regular teachers and so would be the eligibility criteria and age relaxation for reserved categories, the error was on the part of the department which did not mention the number of seats or percentage in the total 387 posts under lecturer, junior basic training (JBT),TGT (trained graduate teacher) and

NTT (nursery teacher training). While, the department officials earlier claimed they can formulate their own recruitment rules and appoint according to the availability, they took no time in correcting the discrepancy in the appointment process.
