The “high power” committee, formed by the Administration to look into the violation of building bylaws by Shivalik Public School, visited the school on Saturday and is expected to table its report by Monday.

After the Central Board of Secondary Education disaffiliated the school acting on a report submitted by the Administration, the Home Secretary had asked the Director Public Instructions (Schools) to inspect the school for the violations. Sources claimed that while the DPI(S) had given a clean chit to the school in the report, the Home Secretary formed another committee as he was “not satisfied” with the findings and wanted a second opinion. The new committee comprises the chief architect and the chief fire officer among others.

While DPI(S) Sunil Bhatia was tightlipped about the report,he said he had asked the Administration to increase the period of recognition of the school till 2011 in the interest of the students.

Home Secretary Ram Niwas was unavailable for comment.

The school was served a showcause notice in 2007 by the then DPI(S) S K Setia after several violations were discovered.
