In case there is any mudslinging or character assassination of any candidate on the social networking site Facebook or through SMS,it will attract action by the Election Commission of India (EC). Anyone can campaign through Facebook. But if one indulges in mudslinging or character assassination, this will invite action from the Election Commission. A tab will be kept on Facebook as well. But the problem is that one can create fake accounts and indulge in character assassination. Tracking such a thing is difficult, , said Chief Election Commissioner of India S Y Quraishi. He added: The Shiromani Akali Dal had complained that some SMSs being sent by Congress leaders are indulging in mudslinging. This will invite action,as this creates tension between the political parties. During a meeting of parties with the EC team, the Akali Dal had raised the issue that as one is not allowed to carry more than Rs 1 lakh in cash,it was like an emergency situation in the state. To this, the EC had told the party: If this is emergency, let it be. The checking will continue. A few officers had also raised the issue that in case any money is seized, income tax officials reach the spot late and the person has to wait for long hours before being given a clean chit. Also, there should be video recording of the cash and documents seized, said Quraishi.
