The wait for final verdict in a high-profile corruption and disproportionate assets case registered against Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,his son Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal,wife Surinder Badal and others by Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) still continues as a special court in Mohali on Tuesday continued the examination and evaluation of the evidence that had already been concluded in the case.
Special Judge Rajinder Aggarwal again posted the matter to May 28 for further examination and evaluation of evidence besides consideration as to whether any incriminating evidence was available against the accused to procure their statements under Section 313 of the CrPC or not.
On April 21,the entire evidence in the case was concluded with the examination of remaining three court witnesses,bringing the trial proceedings in almost seven-year-old case registered in Mohali on June 24,2003,close to disposal.
As the court had already exempted all the accused in the case from personal appearance for today,Badals were not present.
On August 27,2009,the court had ordered to summon 38 material witnesses under second part of Section 311 of the CrPC for proper adjudication of the case as their evidence was found to be essential. Of the total 32 court witnesses examined,13 had admitted while 19 court witnesses,including a VB DSP and Inspector,had not supported the prosecution statements. However,six court witnesses were dropped for re-examination as they had resiled earlier also.
