Initiative for better auto commute launched

Auto drivers will be awarded Sugama Savari stickers based on feedback provided by passengers using the Happy Auto Android application.

To encourage auto-rickshaw drivers to become people-friendly,the Bangalore traffic police have started the initiative Sugama Savari. Auto drivers will be awarded Sugama Savari stickers based on feedback provided by passengers using the Happy Auto Android application.

The stickers will be guarantee of a hassle-free commute. The initiative,launched by Kannada actor Sudeep at an event in Cubbon Park Wednesday morning,follows several complaints of harassment by auto drivers demanding excess fare or refusing to go to certain destinations.

Sudeep said auto drivers needed to make people feel good about Bangalore.

Drivers should treat passengers well,they should not demand excess fare and most importantly,they must not refuse fares, he said.

The actor cited the death of a middle-aged woman in Puttenahalli after rickshaws refused to shift her to hospital. He said the death of the woman left her four-year-old daughter,who had lost her father earlier,orphaned.

Such incidents should be a lesson for all us, Sudeep said.

Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said auto drivers were important representatives of the city. It is the responsibility of drivers to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely. Drivers should take special care to ensure the safety of women travelling alone, he said.
