4 men arrested, minor apprehended in connection with Harsh Vihar murder: Delhi Police

The Delhi Police caught the accused within hours of the murder after analysing CCTV footage from the Harsh Vihar area.

The Delhi Police Tuesday arrested four people and apprehended a minor for allegedly murdering a 41-year-old passerby while trying to rob him to buy more liquor in Harsh Vihar Monday night.

Rakesh Paweriya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), said they received a PCR call about a man lying unconscious and bleeding heavily on the street in Harsh Vihar on November 25. After receiving information, the police rushed to the scene.

The deceased, later identified as Ajay, a resident of the area, was found with severe injuries across his body. His body was shifted to GTB Hospital mortuary, and accordingly, an investigation was taken up after registering a case under sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS0.

A team, led by Inspector Rajeev Kumar Vats, Station House Officer (SHO), Harsh Vihar, under the supervision of Jasod Singh Mehta, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nand Nagari, combed through CCTV footage from the area, which led them to identify the suspects involved.

Within hours, police caught the five people, including the minor. The accused were identified as Harsh aka Chocolate, Rajeev, and Shivam alias CNG — all 19, Ritik alias Bhanu, 22, and a 17-year-old minor.

“During questioning, they revealed that they had been drinking alcohol and were looking for more money to buy more liquor. The group allegedly encountered the victim while he was passing by, and an attempt to rob him escalated into violence. The accused confessed that while all of them beat the victim up, Ritik stabbed Ajay during the altercation, leading to his death,” Paweriya said, adding further investigation is underway.

The Delhi Police said they have recovered the weapon used in the stabbing, and that none of the accused have any previous criminal records.
