The Delhi University (DU) election office has received a complaint against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) candidate for the post of joint secretary, Chattarpal Yadav, alleging that he is ineligible to contest the students’ union polls due to the “criminal offence of pursuing two degrees” at the same time.

The complaint has been filed by a volunteer from the AAP’s students’ body, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti. It alleged that Yadav was enrolled in Rajasthan’s Sunrise University from 2012-15. At the same time, it alleged, he was enrolled in DU from 2013-14.

The letter stated, “Yadav was pursuing two undergraduate degrees at the same time. He did his graduation from Sunrise University in Rajasthan during 2012-15. At the same time, he was enrolled in DU’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College in 2013-14. He contested elections for the post of college councillor in ARSD and won.”

It also alleged that Yadav also contested elections for the post of executive councillor and won.

When questioned about his academic credentials, Yadav said, “I have done my graduation from Sunrise University, Rajasthan. Everything else is a conspiracy to defame me ahead of the elections.”

The election office has received copies of Yadav’s marksheet from Sunrise University and his attendance record and fee slip from ARSD College. “We have received the complaint. It will be forwarded to the university administration for necessary verification,”said D S Rawat, chief election officer at DU.
