After vehement opposition from the Delhi University, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s proposed 14-storey residential project near the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station has now invited flak from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC).

The DUAC has written to the Delhi Metro officials asking them to reconsider the decision to construct the ambitious housing complex, saying the same will put pressure on the infrastructure and the traffic system, leading to massive traffic snarls in the area.

The project is at present being considered by the DUAC for approval. DU Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental had earlier objected to the project, saying the building will be totally out of character with the university’s ambience.

The Delhi Metro had proposed to construct the residential complex next to a 3.05-hectare plot near the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station, which it is using as a parking spot at present.

The DMRC has claimed the building will have 140-odd flats and will not affect the university’s serenity. “As for traffic, provision of parking will be taken care of during construction,” a DMRC official had said.
