CBSE gives schools one month to set up websites

The Central Board of Secondary Education has directed all affiliated schools across the country to develop websites containing comprehensive information on the institutions and their managements.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools across the country to develop websites containing comprehensive information on the institutions and their managements.

The information,to be provided on the websites, includes affiliation status, details of infrastructure, names and designation of teachers,class-wise enrolment of students, postal addresses, email IDs,telephone numbers and details of School Managing Committee members.

The board has also instructed schools to prepare their annual reports, containing the above information, and upload them on the Internet before September 15 of every year. CBSE chairperson Vineet Joshi said,“It is a new initiative on our part to increase transparency in the schools’ admission process.”

Voicing her approval,Laxman Public School principal Usha Ram said,“Having websites would help schools reach out easily to students and parents. The more interactive it is,the better.”

The board had directed the schools to develop websites in October 2010,and given them six months to do so. In the new circular, the board observed: “Some of the schools have not yet developed their websites, and are yet to upload required information.”

However, some parents don’t seem too excited by the prospect of having websites for schools. Stating that websites would hardly help the image of schools, one of them said,“It would only help us know about the fee structure and the aesthetics of the institution.”
