A riot-like situation arose after two communities — Valmikis and Punjabis — clashed in Shahdara late Tuesday.
A few women, reportedly from the Punjabi community, were injured in the clash and were taken to the hospital for a medical examination, police said.
According to police, the reason for the clash is still unknown. An eyewitness said, “The men belonging to one community started throwing stones at the people from the other community. Their men instigated the mob and the situation snowballed. Many women from the Punjabi community were injured in the violence.”
Members of the Punjabi community were camping outside the police station till midnight. Though no FIR has been registered as yet,
police said they were looking into the matter.
