The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the Haryana government to consider its guidelines before initiating any new project to reduce the after-effects of a disaster.
NDMA Joint Secretary Amit Jha said the Authority has prepared a questionnaire, and information based on these questions should be collected while launching a new project. This will help authorities construct a structure that will be sturdy, and help minimise losses in the event of a disaster,he said.
He was speaking at a state-level workshop on Approach and Methodology for the implementation of a Disaster Risk Reduction Project
The Joint Secretary also urged the local administration as well as the government to conduct mock drills from time to time to check the extent of its preparedness.
Mock drills help find shortcomings in our preparedness for mitigating the consequences and after-effects of a disaster, Jha said.
