On the first day of filing of nomination for the MCD polls, the returning officers got a dismal count of six nominations from the 68 centres across the city.

Most aspirants turned up merely to collect the forms.

Two independent candidates filed their nominations from Jharoda, under the general category. Another independent submitted his nomination papers from Mangolpuri. One candidate of Lok Jan Shakti party submitted his papers from Sarai Peepul Thala, and a BSP candidate filed from Bhajanpura on Monday.

“I have collected the nomination form today. I am planning to submit the form only after March 23. It is expected that till then the party will come with its list of candidates. I am waiting for the party to declare its set of candidates. If I get a ticket to contest the polls, fair enough. If I don’t,I will contest as an independent candidate,” said Shashi Bhusan, who wants to contest from the Anarkali ward.

Meena Gupta, who is hoping to get a BJP ticket from Geeta Colony, said: “Some of the candidates have been indirectly intimated that they will get a ticket from the party. But no one wants to take a risk. We are collecting the nomination forms, but will file it only after party makes an officials announcement about their list of candidates.”
