A collision involving two DTC buses claimed the life of a 37-year-old man and left two others injured on Thursday near the Shadipur Bus Depot in West Delhi. The driver of the offending vehicle, Devender (56), has been arrested, said police.
Police said a PCR call regarding the accident was received at Ranjit Nagar police station.
At the spot, they found two buses — a DEVI (Delhi Electric Vehicle Inter-connector) bus and a DTC bus — involved in an accident. Preliminary inquiry revealed the DTC bus was parked at the Shadipur depot when the DEVI bus, allegedly being driven rashly, rammed into it from behind.
As a result of the impact, the stationary bus lurched forward, hitting three pedestrians who were crossing the road, said police. Two of the victims were immediately rushed to RML Hospital. The third, Saurabh (37), a resident of Baljit Nagar, sustained multiple severe injuries and was taken to RLKC Hospital in Ranjit Nagar, where he died during treatment, said police.
Police said further investigation is on to ascertain the exact sequence of events and fix accountability.
The incident marks the second accident involving a DEVI bus this month. On June 6, a DEVI bus allegedly lost control and crashed into a Metro pillar in Ghaziabad, injuring two people. According to the police, while one of the victims suffered minor injuries, the other was grievously injured in his leg and had to undergo an amputation.
