Four days ahead of the proposed Metro fare hike, the Delhi government Friday wrote to DMRC managing director (MD) Mangu Singh, reminding him that he had been “nominated” to the post by the government and should “represent” its views.

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot wrote, “If at any time, it is felt by the Delhi government that its views are not being presented in the right perspective, it shall be constrained to act as per prevalent rules and regulations.”

DMRC refused to comment on the letter. In May this year, the DMRC had announced the hike and said it would be implemented in two phases. If Phase II comes into force on October 10, fares will go up by a maximum of Rs 10 for those travelling over 2 km.

Gahlot added that as per rules, the Delhi government nominates five directors of the DMRC board. “By virtue of clause 130(b) of the Articles of Association of DMRC Ltd, the government has a right to designate, in consultation with the Centre, one of its nominees as the MD… The government has nominated you (Singh) as the MD. Therefore, it is appropriate to expect that you would always put forward the viewpoint of Delhi government in the Board Meeting of DMRC,” Gahlot said.
