The Delhi Metro is in the process of installing interactive digital pods at 28 of its stations. The hi-tech equipment will provide detailed information to commuters about the Metro network, stations, train timings and fare structure, besides fun facts about the Capital.

According to officials, the pods will be ready for public use in a month’s time and will be internally networked. They will also have a Bluetooth option in case commuters want to download information from the pods. Sixty such pods will be installed at 28 stations on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala),Line 2 (Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre) and Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar). While Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate stations will have four pods, all the other stations will have two each.

Since the pods will be internally networked, the DMRC can flash instant messages for the public in case of any emergency or inordinate delays. Eight such pods can already be seen at Rajiv Chowk,Barakhamba Road,Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya Metro stations.

The Metro may in future include a provision, under which the pods may provide accessibility to the portals of the Indian Railways, major airline companies and Google Earth.
