Drug racket busted,two held: Police

Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a drug racket,with the arrest of Theophilus,a 29-year-old Nigerian,and Gurpreet of Gurdaspur in Punjab.

Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a drug racket,with the arrest of Theophilus,a 29-year-old Nigerian,and Gurpreet (24) of Gurdaspur in Punjab.

They were arrested from Pankha Road in West Delhi with 8 kg heroin, worth more than Rs 20 crore in the international market,police said.

“We had information that heroin was being smuggled in from Pakistan through the border in Punjab and was being taken to Delhi and Mumbai. We were working on the leads and finally managed to catch two traffickers,” DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said.

Police said Theophilus had overstayed his visa after coming to Delhi in 2008. “In 2009,he set up links with an international drug mafia. He used to report to his Nigerian counterpart in Pakistan,who sent him the consignments. Gurpreet would collect the packets in Punjab and hand them over to Theophilus. Until now,Theophilus had received and sold more than six consignments in Delhi and Mumbai,” Yadav said.

Gurpreet,a Class XII dropout,used to work in a private firm. Two years ago,he met Theophilus,police said.
