Govt asks civic agencies to clear layout plans of ‘illegal’ colonies

Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the government has notified regularisation of 895 colonies,thereby completing its “part of the task.”

“We have asked the corporations to clear the layout within two months. Or else,the government will have to bring a Cabinet note against the BJP-ruled corporations for intentionally obstructing the regularisation of unauthorised colonies,” he said.

East Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sajjan Singh Yadav said: “We have initiated the process of finalising the agency that will work with the RWAs to make the layout plans.”

“We have spoken to experts in School of Architecture and Planning and the Town Planning department of Jamia Millia Islamia. We will,hopefully,select an agency by next week,” Yadav said.

Lovely said no property tax would be collected from these colonies until the corporations clear the layout plans and basic facilities were provided to these colonies.

“We do not want any tax to be levied until the colonies are regularised,” the minister said.
