Kalmadi undergoes memory tests at AIIMS

Experts at All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday put sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi through detailed medical tests to check for memory-related disorders

Experts at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday put sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi through detailed medical tests to check for memory-related disorders,besides other ailments. Kalmadi (67) was admitted to AIIMS on August 1.

Sources said Kalmadi underwent a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan,aimed at identifying brain lesions,and a routine pathological examination. They added that a complete cardiac evaluation,including an ecocardiogram,is scheduled for Thursday.

Tihar Jail authorities have deposited Rs 12,500 as fees for the tests. A three-member team of doctors — comprising neurologist Dr M V Padma,cardiologist Dr Rakesh Yadav and Dr Aarti Vij — has been formed to conduct the tests. Dr Yadav,officiating spokesperson at AIIMS,said,“Kalmadi underwent a few tests today. We are trying to complete all the tests by tomorrow to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis at the earliest.”

However,no decision has been taken on Kalmadi’s date of discharge. “We are yet to decide on that. We will know for certain by tomorrow,” Yadav said.

Kalmadi was first taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital on July 12,after he complained of dizziness. In his bail application plea,Kalmadi cited a history of brain necrosis,cardiac-valve issues and chronic diabetes.
