Confusion surrounding the Delhi Universitys Common Aptitude Test in English (CATE) followed it even in the declaration of results. With lack of information about the date and place of declaration of result students were left perplexed and groping in the dark.
Most students were under the impression that the result would be declared today. Around 80 per cent of callers today have been asking about the CATE results as they believed that the results would be declared today. Most of them sounded worried as the results were no where to be found, a helpline councillor told Newsline.
The latest update on the DU website, however, states that the results have been compiled and would be out by Wednesday morning.
We have been inquiring about where the results are displayed. Now we have been told that they would be declared tomorrow. We are really anguished at the lack of coordination and information on the part of the University, said Shruti Sharma,an applicant who was at the Faculty of Arts inquiring about the results.
According to sources, even the departments of the University, concerned with admissions, are clueless in this regard. According to the intimation of English department, the results are to be declared today, most probably on the website, while they might be displayed tomorrow at other locations, said G S Tuteja,Deputy Dean,Students Welfare.
Meanwhile,a meeting of the CATE committee was held today to decide result declaration.
There is no confusion from our end. The result is ready and has been sent to the Universitys computer centre. Let us see when it is displayed on the website. They might do it today in the evening or tomorrow morning. Also,we have sent the result to the individual colleges today, said Tapan Basu,a CATE committee member.
According to Basu the result would be displayed at the English department at Faculty of Arts,North Campus, and the DU website. Students can also contact participating colleges to know the results.
There are more than 6,000 names in the list. I dont know whether the colleges would put them up on a notice board Therefore,it would be better to contact the college office, he said.
CATE,conducted for the first time in DU,has been seeped in confusion from the beginning. From the students being confused about the nature of the test and the participating colleges,to shortage of forms and number of examination centres, the launch has not been smooth.
It is being conducted for the first time and the number of candidates has been very large. Therefore, some confusion was there. But it is nothing serious, said Tuteja.
