Many of the Capitals multi-level and automated parking projects are still in early stages of construction,despite crossing their deadlines long ago.
Of 15 automated multi-level parking projects,the one in GK-II was dropped. Till date,only the Kamla Nagar Market project has seen significant progress. It is 80 per cent complete. The 13 other projects are still stuck in various initial stages.
The parking projects at South Extension-I and II are yet to begin as soil testing has been going on for the past one year.
Tender documents have been sent to the Law department for approval for the projects at at Lakar Mandi,Kirti Nagar,Padam Singh Road in Karol Bagh,Karampura and Lajpat Nagar Hospital.
Taking up the issue of shortage of parking space in the South corporation House,Leader of Opposition Farhad Suri said of 59 proposed parking sites only 40 could get no-objection certificates from the Traffic police. In Greater Kailash-I,tenders for multi-level parking were called in 2007 and re-invited in 2008 as the mayor suggested some changes to the tender. The letter of intent was given in 2010 and till date necessary clearances are being sought. The same happened with parking projects in Lajpat Nagar and Defence Colony, Suri said.
Leader of the House Subhash Arya said,Now that the civic polls are out of the way,we will focus on parking projects.
Many conventional parking projects are yet to be completed. The parking project at E-block,Hauz Khas Market,was to be completed by June 2010. Its deadline was extended to June 2012,but only 60 per cent work has been completed as of now. The Munirka Market project was to be completed by June 2010,and is only 60 per cent complete. The projects in Model Town and Mahavir Vatika Gandhi Nagar were to be completed in June 2010,but no progress has been made yet.
